Abbey's Trailing Shoe Slurry System

At the heart of the trailing shoe concept is the fact that cattle can graze shortly after spreading. As a result of placing the slurry at the root level of the crop (so the grass is still clean), grazing only two to three days post spreading is perfectly acceptable.

Farmers will know that this is certainly not the case with splash plate systems where lag periods of up to three weeks can be expected after heavy slurry application. Perhaps this is one of the less obvious advantages of the trailing shoe.
